MP Michael Moore has reacted with disappointment to today's announcement by the communications regulator Ofcom that they will give the go-ahead to the merger of ITV Border and Tyne Tees.
Mr Moore said:
"Viewers in the Borders, and the people who have put together ITV Border's programmes in Carlisle all these years, will feel very let down by Ofcom today.
"Not only does their announcement sound the death knell for the existing ITV Border arrangements, but it also raises the prospect of losing any kind of regional news altogether in a few years' time.
"We simply cannot allow this to happen. There is now renewed pressure on the Government to set out a clear vision for the future of regional broadcasting when Ministers publish their "Digital Britain" report in a week or so."
