Commenting after the Justice Secretary has said that he may release confidential Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission documents relating to the Lockerbie bomber's appeal against his conviction, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP said:
"I am pleased that the Government's position is moving on this issue.
"When Megrahi dropped his appeal, many victims families feared that they'd never know the truth about what happened to Pan Am 103.
"If all that is necessary for the release of this evidence is for the Justice Secretary to bring forward a statutory instrument, then he should do so without any further delay.
"This information is highly sensitive, however, and must not simply be dumped into the public domain with no way of testing it.
"Senior law officers must be consulted to see if there is a way for the matter to be examined properly.
"Liberal Democrats support a change in the law to allow this information to be seen but also tested."
